Girls, challenge yourself and change the world!
Girl Scouts is challenging girls in grades 6-12 to change the world with a new program called Challenge and Change. Thanks to a grant from Girl Scouts of the USA and the US Department of Agriculture, Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines will deliver a program that teaches girls to design and lead a project that makes a positive impact and change in their community. Through weekly planning and activities, girls will come up with an idea, design a plan and identify resources to lead a community project. The grant pays for project materials and three adult program leaders, so the only cost to girls is $12 for a membership to Girl Scouts of the USA. Scholarships are available.
The Challenge and Change program Kick-off and Registration events for Spooner and Shell Lake, WI, begin next week. The program continues through August 2010. Participants will meet weekly. At the Challenge and Change Kick-Off event, girls will explore their own definitions of leadership and community.
Girl Scouts seeks girls in grades 6-12 who are interested in their community, imagine a better future, and like to solve problems to be part of the Challenge and Change group. This national program will be implemented by girls across the United States this year, including programs in Ashland, Bayfield, and Red Cliff, Wisconsin. Both new and current Girl Scouts are welcome to participate.
"I'm excited to use this program to introduce new girls to Girl Scouting and inspire our current members to deepen their community involvement." says Elizabeth Ellis, Girl Scout staff serving Wisconsin. Ellis has over 15 years of experience in working for non-profits in community development, including the year she’s been on staff with the Girl Scouts.
Girls in the Spooner and Shell Lake area are invited to attend the Kick-off and Registration Party.
